Stories of Inspiration: Beautifully Brittany

Brittany is a beautiful 14-year-old girl who is currently receiving chemotherapy at Shands Children’s Hospital in Gainesville, FL. Brittany’s care is being followed by her oncologist, Dr. Katib, and her neurosurgeon, Dr. Ragheb, at Miami Children’s Hospital.  Brittany lives with her Mom and Dad, Ann and Michael; two brothers, Barry and Michael; nephew, Kalil and two dogs, Simba and Mocha.

Prior to her illness she was very athletic playing all sports and she loved basketball.  Brittany was diagnosed with Medullablastoma, a malignant brain tumor, in February 2008.  She had a brain tumor resection surgery the very next day.  Unfortunately, she has been in a wheelchair ever since her initial surgery.  She had radiation and chemotherapy and did fairly well.

In November 2009 she had a relapse and required chemo again, which didn’t show any changes and then we learned of a special study being conducted at APCH which she enrolled in and did very well.  She is currently maintaining her current regimented treatment with success.
