Stories of Inspiration: Birthdays…American Girl Style!

Two years ago, Courtney turned 8.

Two years and 12 days ago, Courtney was diagnosed with a brain tumor.

Fast forward to her 10th birthday, today. She can now walk with her leg braces and assistance.  She eats by mouth and actually enjoys it.  She’s back at school and studying hard.  She’s now left-handed and has learned to adjust to that change.  And she can now wear barrettes in her hair and enjoys combing it.

Last year for her 9th birthday, in the middle of chemo, she went to American Girl for breakfast.  Well … I ate breakfast.  She just waited, patiently, as patient as a 9 year old can while a whole store of dolls, clothes, and accessories were waiting for her.  Then she shopped.

This year, for her 10th birthday, we’re going back.  However, this year she’s going to enjoy the meal celebration first, and then the shopping.  What a difference a year makes.  I can’t wait to see what she’s accomplished in another 365 days.  Happy Birthday Courtney!!!
